Join us October 4th/5th at Zaitz Woods Preserve
The West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance (WWBPA) and Friends of West Windsor Open Space (FOWWOS) are hosting two trail events on the weekend of October 4th/5th to encourage residents to explore and help improve the recreational trails in the Zaitz Woods Preserve with events on both Saturday October 4th (at 9AM) and on Sunday October 5th (at 1PM).
The WWBPA and FOWWOS would like to encourage residents to explore the new recreational trails in the beautiful 156 acre preserve that includes a mixture of upland and wetland forests. Both local organizations have been dedicated to creating new recreational trails in West Windsor Township, opening up beautiful preserved open space for passive recreation along natural trail routes. We encourage residents to explore the newest trails of the Zaitz Woods Preserve and to enjoy the natural beauty that exists in our town.
The first of the events will be on Saturday October 4th at 9AM as FOWWOS Trustee and naturalist Kevin Appelget will lead a walk of the Preserve, educating participants about the flora and fauna that inhabit the forest. The second event will be Sunday October 5th at 1PM, where participants can choose to walk the trails and/or volunteer to make trail improvements. Improvements will include constructing a bridge over a drainage ditch, putting up trail markers, moving a kiosk in place, and clearing the trails of debris and overgrowth. Participants interested in volunteering are encouraged to bring rakes and wear gloves for trail clearing, hammers and socket tools for bridge construction, and post hole diggers for setting up the kiosk. Long pants, walking/hiking shoes and hats are recommended. All ages (including children) are welcome and encouraged to join us.
Interested participants should meet at the Zaitz Woods Preserve Parking Lot on Southfield Road (located across from Westbrooke Boulevard and just south of the entrance to the West Windsor Public Works facility). The walk will take about 1.5 hours. The rain date will be Sunday October 12th at 1PM.
