WEST WINDSOR -- In an effort to raise awareness about the dangers faced by the pedestrians and bicyclists who pass through the intersection each day, members of the West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance on Tues day evening held a march at the junction of Princeton-Hightstown Road (Route 571) and Wallace and Cranbury roads.

The goal of the march was to gather comments from residents who live in that area and/or travel through the intersection on a regular basis about what kinds of improvements are needed to make passage safer for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Being just minutes from the Princeton Junction train station, the intersection is heavily traveled by both vehicle and foot traffic.

"This intersection is a short distance away from one of the busiest train stations in the country," WWBPA President Ken Carlson said in a news release. "It is used by many pedestrians and cyclists on their way to and from the station despite that it is one of the more dangerous and difficult intersections for pedestrians and cyclists in the township to navigate, lacking sufficient crosswalks, curb cuts, and lighting."

Noting that the responsibility for the intersection is shared by the township, county and state, Carlson said the West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance hopes to develop a list of recommendations that the appropriate officials can use to improve safety at the intersection.

"This intersection will be undergoing some re-configuration during the construction of the new Rite Aid complex on the southeast corner," Carlson said. "These improvements may provide an opportunity for officials to come together to pursue implementing additional bicycle and pedestrian improvements."
