I was surprised and a little disappointed to read the recent letter sent by Mr. Ken Carlson, President of the West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance (WWBPA), regarding an article that appeared in the May 20 edition of The Princeton Packet. It is regretful that one of my quotes used by the reporter in the article caused concern for several members of the WWBPA and I would like to make it clear that my comments were in no way intended to diminish or detract from the ongoing efforts of the WWBPA. I fully support the goals and objectives of the WWBPA and will continue to attend meetings and work closely with the organization, interested residents, and other levels of government to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety throughout our community.

Over the next year, the Township is scheduled to move forward with a number of important projects including improvements to the intersection of Alexander Road and Vaughn Drive and improvements to the Alexander Road S-Curve between Canal Point Boulevard and the Princeton Township border. The Township is also planning for the installation of sidewalks in the area of Wallace Road at Wallace Circle and, through a Safe Routes to Transit Grant, sidewalk extensions for North Post Road and Alexander Road between the municipal center and the train station. The WWBPA has truly been an important partner in moving these and other projects forward by providing formal and informal recommendations and bringing together local residents and officials from various levels of government.

In closing, I would like to again recognize and thank Mr. Carlson for all of his time and commitment to making West Windsor safer for pedestrians and cyclists of all ages. Ken is a former co-chair of the Mayor’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Task Force and, under his leadership, the WWBPA has grown to over 270 members over the last two years. I strongly encourage residents to visit the WWBPA at www.wwbpa.org and join today.

Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh,
West Windsor
