The West Windsor Township Council announced a special meeting of Council today that will be held on Monday, May 15, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building. The purpose of the meeting is to hold an information session about the West Windsor government and commence the process of finding a replacement for Kristin Appelget.
The replacement for Kristin Appelget would serve as an interim Member of Council pending the election this coming November. The person elected in November will serve the remainder of Kristin's term of office (through June 30, 2007). Council has until June 7 to fill Kristin's seat for this interim period.
The public will be invited to come before Council and express their interest in being considered for the interim appointment. Anyone who cannot attend that meeting but who would like to be considered for the position should submit their expression of interest to Sharon Young, West Windsor Township Clerk no later than Wednesday, May 17th, 2006 at 5:00 p.m.
Council will also take the opportunity at this special meeting to give the public an overview of how government works in West Windsor. There will be a discussion of the West Windsor Mayor-Council form of government, including the roles played respectively by the Mayor and Council Members as well as the job of being a Member of Council, its responsibilities and the time commitment it requires.
This will be an opportunity for West Windsor residents to hear about the role played by Township Council from the perspectives of the Clerk, the Township Attorney, Members of Council, the Mayor, and the Township Administrator.
The Township Council will meet in executive session to interview candidates for this interim position on Council on one or more dates following the May 15 special meeting. The vote to appoint the interim Member of Council will be taken no later than the June 5, 2006 Agenda Session of Council.
